Born in Ecuador and raised in Queens, RUNA is an identity built upon navigating the grimey streets of pre-gentrified NYC, alongside the confusion, trauma, warmth, and heart that comes with belonging to a family of first-time comers to the U.S.

None of these paintings have a real purpose, no plan. The marks that bleed from these memories, take a life of their own and fall onto a surface, to form the work you witness. It is not merely a hobby, but a reason for existing.

So here we are. I make the paintings. You decide what they mean to you. If you want to take one home, put one on your wall, have me paint something live, collaborate, or make something entirely new, I’m here for it.
